Traditional Okinawan Kata & Kobudo Training
Kata refers to the empty hand movement patterns associated with all Okinawan Karate and contain the movements of the body relating to Okinawan Karate for preservation of Kata and technique.
Kobudo means: "ancient martial ways" and refers to the weapons arts that were practiced in the Ryukyu Kingdom (old Okinawa) during the days weapons were forbidden. These weapons were not the swords, spears, bow and arrows and guns that were in use by other countries of this time period. These were sticks; small hand held weapons that could be easily concealed and common tools found in use everywhere. These martial arts still have practical value in today's world. Kobudo is taught along with Karate as the student advances in our Dojo.
Children's classes begin at the age of 6 and are taught seperately from the adults. Character development (respect, self-confidence, self-discipline, responsibility for one's actions) is strongly emphasized along with the development of motor skills, balance and physical fitness. Children are taught effective methods to protect themselves and how to avoid dangerous situations.
